How to cope with COVID-19 times?

I am sure we have heard the words ‘I have had enough of Covid’ or ‘I am so over it’ many times. We probably all have had enough of it. Life during a pandemic can be very stressful and overwhelming. Our daily routines have been disrupted and eight months in we still continue to face challenges and change. While it is very important to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, there are other ways of battling pandemic fatigue.

How to cope with COVID-19 times?

What goes on today is unlike life just a year ago. Many businesses have been forced to close and hundreds of thousands jobs have disappeared. The fatigue of constant change. Leaving the house, don’t forget the mask and don’t forget the hand sanitizer. How many times have I left my car to go to the store only to realize halfway that I forgot my mask?

Dynamic Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic Inc. has always been very stringent on keeping our facility clean at normal times. With COVID-19 on the news daily what steps have we taken to deal with the crisis? We do much more than just hand wash and wear masks to keep our facility clean and germ-free.

Our treatment tables are cleaned with disinfectant after each use. Additionally, we also use a disposable cover for tables during every treatment. All our modalities such as IFC, Acuscope, Ultrasound, Shockwave and gym equipment are also cleaned prior to and after each treatment. All counter surfaces, as well as telephones and computers, are wiped with disinfectant towels each day. All door handles for treatment rooms and our front door are also cleaned with disinfectant towels each day. For any hands-on treatments such as myofascial release or massage therapy, we use gloves.

We even have 3 stage air cleaners and an ionizer we use to clean and purify the air each and every day. An air ionizer has many benefits such as purifying the air of bacteria, dust, pollen and other bacteria. This can have significant benefits to those suffering from allergies and is another way of keeping our facility clean and germ-free.

On top of this, we strongly recommend ways to try to keep active, stress-free and maintain our mental health. As we slowly head towards winter with daylight hours dwindling and cloud-filled days, it will be more important than ever to maintain our mental health. Simple things such as long walks are a great way to enjoy the fresh air and stay stress-free. Keep active socially but virtually, talk to friends or reach out to others to keep mentally healthy, and try to help others who are coping with these trying times.

Perhaps set up an exercise program at home to keep active. Even introductory basic exercises of proper stretches and muscle strengthening will have you feeling better as well as contributing to both your physical and mental health.

There are other ways to cope with COVID-19 fatigue by maintaining a routine which helps us to gain a sense of control. Understand the source of frustrations and reach out to friends and family to talk and for advice. Stay positive and take care of oneself at all times. Focus on each day as it comes to help deal with stress and frustration. Find things that make you happy and stay with it. And if all else fails don’t be afraid to reach out for help.
